What is First Lego League? (FLL)
Sept 4 meeting notes
- Went over all 15 missions, and some of the rules
- Brainstormed team names
- Selected "favorite" missions that we want to start with.
- The TimeBots team is building a new board, so we can use their old board.
- We will need someone to volunteer to store and transport the board.
- Atmel will sponsor our teams if we use their name as part of our team name, and put their logo on our shirts.
Prepare for the Sept 11 meeting
- Download this PDF: http://firstlegoleague.org/sites/default/files/Challenge/FoodFactor/FLL2011_Complete_Challenge.pdf
- Pages 2-5: Food Safety Project
- Pages 12-14: Missions (15 of them, totaling 452 points, in 150 seconds (2 1/2 minutes))
- For the food safety project:
- Each Team Member―— Look around your kitchen. Make a list of 5 foods you found and how each one is stored. Now, find out how you got each one. Did you grow it yourself? Did you bring it home from a market or store? Was it delivered to you? Did you pick it from an orchard or garden? Did a relative, neighbor, or friend give it to you? Think about how each one was protected
from contamination. Think about how each one was protected from spoiling.
- Think of 2 or 3 good team names.
- We struggled to come up with anything new that people liked more than Hurricanes -- some ideas were, Electric Hurricanes, Lightning bolts, Brick Breakers, Zapping Eagles. So see what pops into your head this week.
- Mission planning: Each team member pick 2 missions
- A1: Rats and Thermometer
- A2: Timer and Corn Harvester
- J: Pollution reversal, Thermometr
- K: Timer, Groceries to Table
- R: Fish, Refrigeration truck
- W: Fish, Refrigeration truck
- Bring your robot and computer -- we'll want 3 or 4.
To Do
- Brainstorm mission plans
- Select a robot design
- Work on programs and robot configurations/attachments for each mission (perhaps in pairs?)
