Welcome to the Team 6763 page

General To Do

  • Food Safety Project
  • Brainstorm mission plans
  • Select a robot design
  • Work on programs and robot configurations/attachments for each mission (perhaps in pairs?)
  • Finish building sink
  • Build new NXT robot

Prepare for the Sept 18 meeting

  1. We need to get our parental consent forms submitted very soon, to reserve a spot at a local competition.  Attached is a copy, or click here: http://www.playingatlearning.org/FLL/2011/2011_FLLConsentFormEnglish.pdf. I'll also bring some blank ones Sunday.  Please read, sign, and leave with your coaches.
  2. Think of 2 excellent team names, and write them on a piece of paper.  Then we'll vote on the name.
  3. Think about the food safety project.  What is one food and problem you would like to see solved?  Write it down.
  4. Bring your Lego NXT and a laptop.  (Let's also remind the kids to try not to mix the kits/parts.)

Sept 11 meeting notes

  • For the food safety project:
    • Each Team Member―— Look around your kitchen.  Make a list of 5 foods you found and how each one is stored. Now, find out how you got each one. Did you grow it yourself? Did you bring it home from a market or store? Was it delivered to you? Did you pick it from an orchard or garden? Did a relative, neighbor, or friend give it to you? Think about how each one was protected
from contamination. Think about how each one was protected from spoiling.
  • Discussed team names.  Nothing jumped out that was better than Hurricanes.
  • Mission planning:  We broke into pairs, working on these missions.
    • A1 & J: Rats, Thermometer, Pollution reversal
    • A2 & S: Timer and Corn Harvester
    • R & W:  Fish, Refrigeration truck  (also Pollution reversal)
    • K: absent
  •  Each pair presented their idea to the group.

Sept 4 meeting notes

  • Went over all 15 missions, and some of the rules
  • Brainstormed team names
  • Selected "favorite" missions that we want to start with:
    • A1: Rats and Thermometer
    • A2: Timer and Corn Harvester
    • J: Pollution reversal, Thermometer
    • K: Timer, Groceries to Table
    • R:  Fish, Refrigeration truck
    • S:  Rats and Polution Reversal
    • W: Fish, Refrigeration truck
  • The TimeBots team is building a new board, so we can use their old board.
    • We will need someone to volunteer to store and transport the board.
  • Atmel will sponsor our teams if we use their name as part of our team name, and put their logo on our shirts.

Parent Helper ideas

  • T-shirt "project" -- get kids to agree on a design.  Create the design.  Get kids' sizes.  Have shirts made.
  • Science Report project: help kids get started, focus their efforts
    •  Report?  Skit?  Practice presentations
  • Rule expert & FAQ monitor
    • Help the kids absorb the 20 pages of missions and rules.  Check the website FAQ for rule clarifications.
  • Build a 4x8' board
    • (Joe volunteered, but we can also use last year's board!  The TimeBots team is building a new board.)
  • Store/Transport 4x8' board as needed
  • Snacks!  (If you want to sign up, go here: snack schedule or email me and I'll add you.
  • Transportation to November events
